Join us for an evening of exploration and discussion about artists Pablo Picasso et Jean Cocteau, in partnership with the association Des Mots et des Arts.

Each month, explore the visionary art of Provence painters, and better understand how they interrogate our world, with an art history workshop.

This month, we’re exploring the singular friendship between two celebrated artists, Picasso and Jean Cocteau.

Born a few years apart, Picasso (1881-1973) and Cocteau (1889-1963) kept up a profound fifty-year friendship. Their lives and their artworks were constanty crossing paths, first in Paris, then, frequently, on the Mediterranean coast. One would create for the other, and vice versa, giving birth to innumberable works made with four hands. Picasso and Jean Cocteau, mixing words and images with virtuosity, also gave the modern illustrated book a recognized art form.

The story of these two jack of all trades crossed paths allows us to appreciate the wide range of their borderless genius, going from poetry to drawing to painting and even theater and cinema.
