The new call for startups is now live – what’s new this season?
In the previous season, we chose to focus on two key topics: food and mobility. We built a strong network in these fields, enabling our startups to create long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
For the third season, we will capitalize on this work by supporting startups in the same fields, but with a focus on scaling from local to international. We provide a very high-level ecosystem introducing our startups to international experts, VCs and business angels, as well as worldwide billion-dollar companies to challenge their business models, bring them to market and test their solutions on a global scale.
You’re scouting for startups now – what dates should we remember leading up to Climb #03?
Yes indeed! It’s the best part of my job, getting to meet new startups, radical entrepreneurs and peers supporting innovation. These coming weeks, we’re meeting with local entrepreneurs, incubators, co-working spaces and schools, such as Marseille Solutions, Technopôle de l’Arbois, Zebox, La Coque and more. We all work towards a common goal: create an attractive and fertile ground for tomorrow’s solutions and make sure they succeed locally and beyond.
The main date to remember is February 21. That’s when our online application form will close – at midnight!! Applications must be finalized by then.
From the online applications – which we will be reviewing on an on-going basis – 10 to 20 local startups will be selected to pitch at thecamp on February 21. The local jury committee will select 1 to 3 radical entrepreneurs challenging status quo and reinventing the way we eat or move. They will jump directly to the final phase of our selection process for Climb #03.
On February 28, our mentors – 20 extraordinary people from all over the world (VCs, business angels, serial entrepreneurs and experts) – will review the top 25 applications to make their final selection.
10 startups will be selected to join the program at Le Village by CAAP at thecamp, in Provence, from April 14 to July 13,2019.
The final pitch is a key moment for early-stage startups trying to convince investors. What’s your advice for them?
We're not judging you! You’re amazing for what you are and what you have done so far. In a way, the main thing we review is actually our own capacity to help your startup get off the ground.
Based on my experience, entrepreneurs sharing their “WHY” are the most convincing. It may sound obvious, but pitch why you work on your solution and how you intend to take it to the next stage. Explain what the stakes and risks are, why you let go of other opportunities to focus on your solution. Once you’ve asserted your credibility, talk about what challenges and pain points you’re addressing, unveil how your solution is a great fit for the market and how you believe we can help you. Be genuine, be confident, be yourself!
And if you’re a woman entrepreneur, you should know we highly value your journey and will make all necessary arrangements to create ideal conditions for you to join us.
Over 20 startups were accelerated at thecamp last year. Which ones should we be keeping up with?
All of them! Absolutely all of them. They were recruited among over 150 startups from 15 countries and handpicked by top level experts worldwide. Their individual journeys are all truly impressive.
